DEVELOPING SKILLS FOR LAND USE/COVER CHANGE RESEARCH

A special International Geographical Union - Land Use Land Cover Change (IGU-LUCC) Programme for Young Researchers working on Land Use/Cover Change in the Asia-Pacific Region is being sponsored by the Asia Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) and the Land Use/Cover Changes in Temperate East Asia (LUTEA).

The Programme is intended to promote research capacity building of young scholars working on land use/cover change research in the Asia Pacific Region. Although anyone who identifies as a 'young researcher' is welcome to attend, APN Supported Participants in the Young Researchers Programme will receive assistance, at least in part, for travel expenses and Symposium/Conference fees.

The Young Researcher's Programme will be conducted in conjunction with the IGU-LUCC'97 Open International Symposium and the IGU'97 Commission on Sustainable Rural Systems Conference, both held in Australia in early July, 1997. It will commence on July 2 at the Australian Centre of the Asian Spatial Information and Anaylysis Network (ACASIAN), Griffith University.

The Programme includes the following activities that contribute to the above objective:
