COMMERCIAL BACKGROUND
In September, 1994, a Griffith University Collaborative Research Grants Scheme
proposal was submitted in conjunction with ERSIS Australia Pty. Ltd. to
digitise the Atlas of Chinese Postal Codes in order to produce
commercial data
sets on China that would be marketed worldwide through the network of MapInfo
resellers. In October, ACASIAN sample data was demonstrated in the
United States,
which resulted in an agreement for ERSIS to supply MapInfo with a simplified
provincial map and around fifty associated demographic and econometric
variables which will be distributed with the new version of Microsoft EXCEL
for Windows 95. The grant application was ultimately successful, and a number
of products are being developed in 1995 from the Atlas of Chinese Postal Codes.
